Physician NonClinical Careers with John Jurica

Mar 27, 2020

In this interview with Dr. Maria Abunto, we learn why the medical science liasion is a popular nonclinical career. Maria is a global MSL working for a device company.

She received her medical degree at the University of the East in the Philippines, and a master's degree in public health from the University of Pittsburg.

Prior to landing her first job as an MSL, she worked with an IRB in a large children's hopital and then as an epidemiologist and investigator for the National Institutes of Health.

During our conversation, she describes how her work at the NIH and her MPH helped prepare her to apply for a position as an MSL, why she enjoys the work, and resources listeners should use to help them get their first MSL job.

One important resource she describes is the Medical Science Liaison Society, and its CEO Dr. Samuel Dyer, and Director of Development, Heliana Sula. It offers a mentorship program, networking opportunities, live and online courses, and MSL Board Certification.
