Physician NonClinical Careers with John Jurica

Dec 8, 2021

Learn how to use Guidestar to prepare for your nonclinical job search.

You may have noticed that we are presenting episodes that provide advice about very specific tactics to be used in the career transition process.

Not all transitions use the tactics we're teaching. But these tactics are foundational enough to help the majority of you to accelerate your job search if they are implemented.

Today, we describe how to use an often-overlooked tool to help you in three different but important ways:

  1. To identify sources for free management and leadership experience which will provide you with tangible skills and look good on your resume.
  2. To find salary levels for physicians doing what you’re planning to do.
  3. To do research on your potential new employer in order to help you decide whether to pursue its job AND educate you about the organization prior to your interviews.

This resource, GuideStar, can be found at guidestar.org.

Guidestar is the organization that reports data submitted to the IRS for all nonprofit corporations in the U.S.

We can use Guidestar to access the 990 reports submitted by each of them, along with the basic demographic details that help us determine their size and location.
