Physician NonClinical Careers with John Jurica

Feb 12, 2019

Dr. Andrea Paul is the founder of BoardVitals, a medical education company that started by helping physicians prepare for board exams.

Andrea completed her MD at Michigan State University College of Medicine, and left her residency at Yale University to start BoardVitals in 2012.

Andrea is now the CMO of BoardVitals. She’s also an active public speaker, addressing innovation, health entrepreneurship, taking risks, and other business topics.

BoardVitals has grown to become an Inc. 500 healthcare education company. It develops digital assessment tools and medical content to prepare physicians, nurses, and other medical health professionals for specialty board exams and certifications.

Bringing together content from major publishers, universities, and leading healthcare providers, BoardVitals uses advanced search and curation methods to identify and improve medical knowledge as information is published.

The company was recently purchased by Ascend Learning. Andrea now serves as Chief Medical Officer at Ascend and BoardVitals.

During our interview, Andrea provides useful insights into how to start and quickly grow a seven-figure business using outside investors.

You might recall that several other entrepreneurs like Andrea have joined us here on the podcast.

We had a glimpse at a very early stage start-up in my interview with Leah Houston in Episode 045. She was still working with an incubator and in the process of finding investors when that episode was released.

In Episode 029, Sylvia Romm explained how she bootstrapped her own telehealth company, and sold it to a larger company. Now she’s the VP for Clinical Transformation at that company.

And Jon Larson explained how he and a partner founded their company, Medspoke, brought on investors, and attracted their first clients in Episode 067.

So, if you want to get more insight into the process of creating a multi-million-dollar business, after listening to today's episode you should listen to those episodes too.
